šŸ Fresh Pages, Fresh Pens, Fresh Perspective—September Awaits

Aug 28, 2025 1:01 pm

Hi ,

"September is the other January." Gretchen Rubin

There is something about September that feels like a fresh start. It must be the years of back to school planning. It’s a time for new office supplies, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils, and excitement for new projects. The air feels crisp, the leaves start to change, and the urge to be cozy settles in.

This is your reminder that every season has us seeing the world differently and you can use those fresh eyes to see your manuscript in a new way. Now is a great time to recharge your creativity. (And load up on new office supplies! We never met a writer who didn’t love an excuse to buy some new pens or notebooks.)

If you want some support in recharging that creativity- no problem!

Workshop Wednesdays

September 3: Publishing rules and when to break them with Eileen. A follow up to the past month when we discussed craft rules, this time we’ll look at what people say about publishing (indie and traditional) to see if you should play by the rules.

September 10: Craft book discussion with Jenny. Here’s your chance to dive into a craft book and see what you can apply to your own writing. This month’s discussion is on Jeff VanderMeer’s Wonderbook. All are welcome, regardless if you’ve had a chance to read the book yet.

September 17: Mind Mapping with Jacqui. Ready to harness the collection brain of the community to take your writing to the next level? Come and brainstorm plot problems, prompts, or character issues.

September 24: Blue Pencil with Bonnie. Here’s your opportunity to get up to 750 of your manuscript words, synopsis or query letter looked at by the hive mind.

Events:

FORUMS/GENRE MEET-UPS/ ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS: A big part of what makes TCA work is the community that builds between writers. Your participation in forums either by asking questions or sharing your thoughts, helps this place feel like a home. And there are other options to get involved too. Be sure to check the events schedule for the regular genre meet-ups and weekly accountability groups. You can join those communities (they’re all listed down the left side of the main page) so that  you know when events are coming up.

We give you full permission to go to the store and buy yourself some new office supplies to jump start your September!
