Update - non-testing countries and covid

Dec 06, 2020 10:11 pm

Countries who do not require covid testing might sound good in terms of travel, but be aware that doesn't mean you won't be otherwise evaluated. Here's what to know.

  • Your airline might require testing or proof of negative testing before you can board the plane upon departure and again upon boarding for return.
  • All countries will either randomly or for every arriving passenger evaluate your health. This might include questionnaires, examinations, temperature checks, and quarantine if you arrive showing symptoms.

Cruise lines for the most part are cancelling any cruise that is over 7 nights through most of 2021. There are exceptions, especially European cruise lines. If you have a cruise already booked during this time frame be aware it may change ports, be shortened, or be cancelled entirely.

Digital health passports are in the news and you can expect airlines and other travel suppliers to require one in the coming months. Your digital health passport would provide information on whether you are free of COVID-19 and whether you have been vaccinated once the inoculations become available. This is happening in an effort to instill confidence in travelers to travel again.

Heads up about Kauai. While Hawaii has opened its borders (somewhat) for travel, the island of Kauai has decided to return to requiring a 14 day quarantine upon arrival. This went into effect on December 2.

Travel after the New Year to some Caribbean islands and to Mexico is seeing a spike in bookings now. I think as travelers realize that winter cruises will not be available they are looking at options in warm destinations that are open to American travelers. Florida is heavily booked for winter travel already!

That's it for now! If you are looking at travel after June, 2021 let me know.
