Who even sees your FB posts?

Hi ,

Everyone knows that the posts they put on Facebook don't get seen by everyone who is connected to you. But what is the average reach? Right now, it's about 5.2%, meaning that about 5% of the people you are connected to on Facebook actually see your posts at all.

Facebook "rewards" and "punishes" you for the content you post. If you get engagement you will get more reach. If you post something that Facebook doesn't like you will get less reach. Right now, as an example, have you noticed that if you post an external link (let's say a link to a newspaper article) almost no one will comment on it at all. Crickets. Why is that? Because basically Facebook refuses to show external links to your followers. FB wants you to post things that keep people on Facebook. Period.

Your FB posts get seen these days based on a complicated set of conditions, and it's different for every one of your followers. If one of your followers doesn't engage with your posts about vitamins but always responds to a post about your dog then FB eventually quits feeding your vitamin posts to that follower anyway. FB will only feed the dog posts to her. What you see on FB and what your followers see on FB depends on what you and your followers have responded to.

I hate this! Because pretty soon your feed is so narrow in scope - it kind of digs you into a hole. And the same for your followers. It's censorship, basically. If you want to read more about this topic you can find a good article on Hootsuite by clicking the button below.

Let's talk about engaging your audience where it counts WAY MORE than Facebook, and that's on your own website. Getting engagement and reach for your blog posts is important for building long-term visibility, building your e-mail subscriber list, and making sales. I've been working through Engaging Your Audience, and you'll find it to be useful if you are wanting to get better engagement and monetize your blog more this year. (That is my own affiliate link.) Carly, the blogger who created it, has updated it for 2021, which I like, too.

Better Blogging

This year I'm working to create better articles on my blog and get better engagement. Tools like this one are helpful and not overwhelming.

Remember when you are on FB to post in ways that foster engagement, but don't put your business eggs all in the Facebook basket.

To your sweet success,
