Hear Beatrix and Peter for the first time (it's magical)

I've been bursting to tell you this news: Subversive is coming out in audio, with the rest of the Clandestine Magic trilogy following soon.

Narrator Leanne Woodward is amazing, you guys. I listened to the whole book last week, and as well-worn as these words feel to me after re-reading them a jillion times on the hunt for typos, she made them utterly new. She perfectly captures Beatrix's sly sense of humor. She makes you feel Peter's struggle as his mistakes compound. She brings all the other characters to life, too.

You can listen to the beginning here:

And you can help by taking this short survey. Let me know if you'd like a free review copy when it's available, if the prequel story should have an audio version too and which audio platforms you like to use. I've got to make the exclusive-or-not decision about Audible, and that's always hard. (Don't like listening to books? That's OK, there are some answer options on the survey just for you.)

P.S. Hearing Leanne as Peter reciting Shakespeare's Sonnet 116 was ... wow. I had to hit pause to go gush about it.

A few more cool & bookish things

✨ Deal alert: Vela Roth's steamy Blood Mercy is on sale the next few days, so you can grab it for just 99 cents. I love her immersive world, cool twist on vampires, political intrigue and characters who stick with you long after you're done. (I'm on book three of this series, and man, it just keeps getting better.)

Here's the blurb:

Cassia needs to know the truth about her past, and the only one who can tell her is a Hesperine—a fanged, immortal creature of the night. His magic could end her mortal life in a heartbeat. But she knows the real monster is the human king, her father. If he finds out she’s consorting with the enemy, he’ll send her to the executioner.

Lio must do the impossible as a Hesperine ambassador to the human court: negotiate with mortals who hate him. Cassia is different. She's his hope of stopping the humans from hunting down his people. But politics aren't why she captivates him. The temptation of her blood puts his diplomacy to the ultimate test. If he takes even a taste of the king's daughter, he'll provoke the war he's trying to prevent.

You made it to the end! You're awesome. (And oh hey, here are my latest books. In an America run by wizards and 100 years behind on women's rights, she resists. He's the wizard who just hired her.)
