Your great ideas for a better book cover

I asked for help. You delivered.

Two weeks ago, I put out a call for help: I'm planning to get a new cover for my first book, The Opposite of Magic, and needed ideas to better communicate its vibes. Specifically, a woman obsessed with fantasy adventure books as a kid gets caught up in an actual adventure that does not go according to plan (with an aggravating wizard who thinks those books are bunk).

You all sprung into action.

My inbox overflowed with your cool ideas, examples of covers you thought might help and well wishes.

Key takeaways: You're awesome (of course), and most of you think my best bet is to show the antagonists-to-lovers characters, probably mid-antagonism with some magic involved.

Once I get a plan sorted, I'll circle back with the promised ebook prize.

Thank you all! I so enjoyed hearing from you. Writing (and reading) are usually solitary activities, but bookish conversation is a lovely two-way street.

I think I replied to everyone, but let me know if I missed you.

While we're talking about book covers: What's your absolute favorite and why?

Hit reply and I'll tell you mine. πŸ˜‰

Oh! And while we're on the topic of covers: I may have forgotten to mention that the paperback versions of the Clandestine Magic series have a secret message. If you have a set, line them up and look at the spines.

Can you decipher it?

I'll share what it is next time. πŸ”Ž

I just started reading Kate Moseman's Silver Spells β€” always cool to find a fantasy with a middle-aged main character:

Luella Campbell is having the weirdest day ever. Getting fired from her job at the sunscreen factory for no good reason is bad enough, but when a mysterious dog brings a tempest into her former workplace, Luella’s life is completely upended by the sudden gift of wild and windy magical powers.

With the help of her ride-or-die best friends, her motorcycle-riding mother, and a romantic blast from the past, Luella must find a way to make ends meet while unlocking the mysteries of her newfound magic ... and the secrets hidden in the picturesque town of Sparkle Beach.
