As we barrel toward the end of 2023, I'd like to offer a toast.
Good riddance.
It was a rough year. In multiple ways.
But in fairness, there were some pretty wonderful things, too. There's nothing like a crappy stretch of time for reminding you that the people in your life can do magic, making you laugh when you thought you couldn't possibly.
I'm so grateful for every laugh, every silly gif, every how are you call.
And the special enchantment that books can cast on you, carrying you elsewhere? I really needed that this year, and the books did not disappoint.
I don't know about you, but nothing gets me out of my head (in the "think about this other thing completely unrelated to real life for a while" sense) as thoroughly as a book. I devoured novels by authors I'd been meaning to read for years, novels by authors I'd been meaning to read more of, novels by lovely authors I know, and I felt grateful for all of them.

(Did you know that raspberry is called that because raspberry tart is rhyming slang for the thing a raspberry sounds like? I have known this for precisely sixty seconds, as I'm writing these words, and HAD TO SHARE IMMEDIATELY. You're welcome.)
However your 2023 went, may kindness and well-timed silliness and exactly the books you need buoy you through whatever comes in 2024.
