This month's pick is A Haunting in Venice (2023): “A Haunting in Venice” is set in eerie, post-World War II Venice on All Hallows’ Eve and is a terrifying mystery featuring the return of the celebrated sleuth, Hercule Poirot. Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world’s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a séance at a decaying, haunted palazzo. When one of the guests is murdered, the detective is thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets.

At The Library After School (ATLAS) is an after-school program for 1st - 5th graders consisting of read-aloud stories, exploring the library, crafts, movies, STEM, and activities. The program will run weekly on Mondays from 3:30-5:00pm starting September 9. Registration required.

Monday, October 28th at 6:00 pm

Bring a pencil and some paper (or grab your laptop) and join a community of writers. Use the time to work on a project or join in on the prompts and games provided. The group meets from 6:00 - 7:00 pm on Monday nights whenever the library is open.

Story time for children ages 3-5 and their families is held at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday, year-round. Story time consists of stories, body movement activities, songs, and rhymes, helping children grow the skills they need to become lifelong readers. Young children and their grown-ups are invited to join us for these free weekly events!

Some claim there’s nothing to see in flyover country. But take a closer look and you’ll discover that Iowa is home to more than just cornfields. Dive in and discover the state’s offbeat history and quirky places through Secret Iowa: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure. Even at some of the state’s most well-known places, you’ll discover hidden histories and unique stories that are not often shared. Local author and travel writer Megan Bannister uncovered some of the state’s wackiest attractions to guide your adventure around Iowa. Buckle up, fill up your tank and get ready for an offbeat road trip full of the state’s best kept secrets.

Cards & Creativity meets every Thursday that the library is open at 1:00 p.m. This is a weekly opportunity to meet up with others to play games or engage in your creative outlet of choice. You can work on fiber art, writing, music, drawing, or anything else that inspires you! We'll provide coloring supplies and cards for you to use!

Join us on Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m. for a fun, one-on-one program with bouncing rhymes, books, music, and group play just for our youngest patrons. This program is designed for ages birth to 18 months with a parent or caregiver. Older siblings may accompany.

Don't pack that costume away yet! Families are encouraged to come dressed in costumes (any family friendly costume please no blood or gore) to spend a morning creating some fun crafts in the children's department. Don't have a costume? No problem! Well have some fun dress-up items to borrow during the program, or make a mask to wear and take home with you.

Join us for a seed harvesting program! Learn how to collect seeds from different plants with this hands-on educational experience. You will see the work that typically goes into preparing our seed library, and you'll get first pick on seeds you want to bring home!

A monthly opportunity to read the same books as others in the community without the added obligation to meet and discuss the book. Just check it out and return it like you would with any other inter-library loan book!

Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation.

Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality.
