The Mystery Book Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in the library. August's selection is One for the Money by Janet Evanovich.
Out of work and out of money, Stephanie blackmails her bail-bondsman cousin Vinnie into giving her a try as an apprehension agent. Stephanie knows zilch about the job requirements, but she figures her new pal, el-primo bounty hunter Ranger, can teach her what it takes to catch a crook. Her first assignment: nail Joe Morelli, a former vice cop on the run from a charge of murder one. Morelli’s the inamorato who charmed Stephanie out of her virginity at age sixteen. There’s still powerful chemistry between them, so the chase should be interesting…and could also be extremely dangerous.

Dystopia is an imagined state or society in which there is great suffering or injustice. Usually these imagined states end up ominously reflective of our own society.

Join our Youth Services Librarian at Fresh on Fridays in Central Gardens once a month to stroll through the gardens, stop to read a few stories, and then continue the adventure with an exploration based on that day's book. We'll use our senses to enjoy all that the garden has to offer through the different seasons. After the stroll, spend some time exploring the rest of the activities that Fresh on Friday at Central Gardens has to offer! Meet at the main gate.
Sponsored by the Friends of the Clear Lake Public Library.

And Also This Month:
August Introverts Book Club: The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
A monthly opportunity to read the same books as others in the community without the added obligation to meet and discuss the book. Just check it out and return it like you would with any other inter-library loan book!
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern: Zachary Ezra Rawlins is a graduate student in Vermont when he discovers a mysterious book hidden in the stacks. As he turns the pages, entranced by tales of lovelorn prisoners, key collectors, and nameless acolytes, he reads something strange: a story from his own childhood.
Bewildered by this inexplicable book and desperate to make sense of how his own life came to be recorded, Zachary uncovers a series of clues: a bee, a key, and a sword that lead him to a masquerade party in New York, to a secret club, and through a doorway to an ancient library hidden far below the surface of the earth. What Zachary finds in this curious place is more than just a buried home for books and their guardians - it is a place of lost cities and seas, lovers who pass notes under doors and across time, and of stories whispered by the dead. Zachary learns of those who have sacrificed much to protect this realm, relinquishing their sight and their tongues to preserve this archive, and also of those who are intent on its destruction.
