I've met some of you before, but for those who are new, my name is Beth Fischer. I grew up in Pine Hill, New Jersey, and my favorite summer haunt is the Ocean City beach or boardwalk. I love writing stories where love triumphs over adversity, and I positively adore Shelties. 🐶

While I enjoy seeking out the magic in our mundane world, I'll have to admit that I never really believed in the unseen . . . .

Until my cousin stole my pen from me one night and coated it with ice. ❄

It was summer. And the window AC unit in my room wasn't that powerful.

My Cousin Swanie Is A Witch

There's more to this world than meets the eye. My dad belongs to an ancient German conclave known as the Teutons, a lineage that harbors mystical blood and elemental magic. He can create 💦mist💦 through the power of his spirit alone—a factoid he never saw fit to share with me, his only child.

Until my ice-witch cousin Swanie ratted him out. And informed me that although some sort of magic lurks deep within my blood, I'll never be able to wield it since my mom's a run-of-the-mill American. Talk about a slap in the face.

Thankfully, Swanie's been really supportive. She's teaching me all about Teuton history and about the rituals that might prove useful one of these days . . . if I can summon the courage to undergo a horrific process that would change my standard blood into Teuton blood. Swanie doesn't want me to try it, because a lot of people have died attempting to gain Teuton blood through ritual magic.

But what my cousin doesn't know can't hurt her. Right? 🩸

Magic + Danger = Reality

Swanie's mentioned demons from time to time, when we've talked about her mystical heritage. She also claims that fairies exist and that some sort of enchanted oak tree has healing properties.

As if the elemental magic and blood sorcery wasn't crazy enough.

Aaaaaaand apparently Swanie has pissed off one specific demon enough for him to possess a random dude at our college and incite him to assault her.

Why does danger always go hand-in-hand with magic?

I just recently found out that my cousin unearthed a powerful amulet from a gorge back in Germany. An amulet rumored to harbor otherworldly power that can open the gates of time. Swanie wants to use it to find out what really happened way back in the 11th century when her people fell to the Saxons.

Because how could standard, non-magical humans conquer a kingdom of elemental witches, mages, and priests who speak with demons? Swanie insists that there must be more to Teuton history than what the records reveal.

And she wants me to join her on a gallant quest to uncover the truth.

Me. The half-Teuton, half-American cousin who claims no magic.

Maybe a short stint in the 11th century could awaken my gifts. 🤔
