So I Made An Ignorant Mistake....

I'm sure you might be wondering about the mistake I mentioned in this newsletter's subtitle. Well. Strap in for my unfortunate tale.

You might recall that I got a BookBub Featured Deal in early July for Gift of Fire, the first book in the Elemental Bloodlines series. That threw an unexpected wrench into my writing schedule, because I had A LOT of preparation to do behind the scenes to make the promotion as successful as possible.

So I didn't actually start writing Gift of Water until the second to last week in July.

With a release date of August 20th. 🤦‍♀️

Yeah. I don't write THAT fast. At best I can get 3,000 words out in 1 day.

I'm sure you've guessed where this is going. I barely, just barely finished Gift of Water literally last week. And yes, the ARC copy has 2 known typos/wrong words in it. 🥴 Major apologies to my fantastic ARC team. You're champs for putting up with the unpolished version of C.L. Carhart's weird muses.

Now, since I publish my books on multiple retailers rather than only on Amazon, that means I have to upload my eBooks in 7 different places before release day. Two of those places have a 10-day deadline.

Nope. I did not meet that deadline. 😔

Thankfully, both of those places allow an author to push the release date further out. If you happen to read on Apple Books or request my eBooks from your local library, you won't be able to get Gift of Water until Wednesday the 23rd.

Could be worse, right?

Guess what?

It's worse.

Retailers like Amazon, Nook, and Kobo have a 4-day deadline. So on Wednesday last week, I happily sat down to upload Gift of Water in all of those places, grateful I'd had more time to cleanse my manuscript of imperfections.

Then I found out Amazon's deadline is actually at 11:59pm GMT.

Which is in the UK.

And I sat down to upload at 8pm EST. 🤦‍♀️

So I missed Amazon's upload deadline, which means I lost all of my pre-orders for Gift of Water. And there were a lot of them, more than I've ever had for any book in the middle of a series. They're gone. 😭

That means if you happen to read on Kindle, I'm here on my knees begging you to buy Gift of Water today. It's available even though I missed the deadline, because I uploaded it the next day and published it immediately.
