Do you prefer the crisp scent of a paperback?

You'll have to be patient just a little while longer.

I'll make sure to share links for the paperbacks next Wednesday.

In the meantime, check out the fun scene below for a taste of what Swanie faces as the Lady of Muniche─and as the sole guardian of time's gateway. 🤩

There was a soft crunch of footsteps upon the snow, and I turned to face the holly bushes as a woman who could have been my twin emerged from their dark green leaves and crimson berries. A knit hat concealed most of her black hair, and a fur-lined designer parka swathed her form in stylish warmth. Her hands were bare, like mine, and her blue eyes shifted from my face to the snowflakes with which I played. Tears welled in my eyes as I blinked at her, where she had stopped just beyond the bushes. The greetings I had practiced evaporated.

Camilla Fischer von Thaden looked striking. Muted eyeshadow and mascara enhanced the cobalt glory of her irises as they stared at the snowflakes that had transformed into ice to coat my fingers. She looked back at my face, and her full lips parted to speak my name. “Swanie?”

How does she know? Hastily, I tried to fabricate some kind of response, and all I managed was, “Hi.” My brain had turned to mush.

My mother raised an eyebrow at me and placed her hands on her hips, as though she had caught me stealing from the cookie jar. “Shouldn’t you be in New Jersey?”

“I am,” I blurted, my voice trembling over the Bayerisch words. “I mean . . . the five-year-old version of me . . . is with your brother’s family.” I blinked fiercely against my tears; they were more ice than water. “I . . . I came . . . .”

My mother took a step forward, shortening the distance between us to less than half a meter. My right hand hung frozen in the atmosphere, the sundial beside me cleared of snow. She looked me over from head to toe, and I saw her forehead crease as she met my gaze. “You’ve traveled time . . . to visit me.”
