Now that Blood of the Crown has been out for eight days, I feel like it's time to revisit the Character Bios. And today I thought we'd visit one of a very brief character....
Sir Paxron of Kelkor
Introduction: The Cutthroat Prince
Description: N/A in books, though dark haired, tanned skin, mid-twenties.
Fate: Dies in the service of the crown, bringing Princess Kalia to Alamore for her safety in The Cutthroat Prince.
Bio: Sir Paxron was a knight of Kelkor. Prior to becoming a knight, he spent four years training under Lady Serena of Kelkor as her squire. He was Lady Serena's first squire and was noted as being gifted, determined, and level-headed. However, he was also known to take the occasional risk in his endeavors to improve with battle tactics. On more than one occasion, he was known to refuse to rest until he had achieved success in training, including working throughout the night. In the years of his training, he and Serena grew to be good friends, with Serena becoming a role model as well as mentor even after he earned his title as knight of Kelkor.
Upon becoming a knight, Paxron advised Lady Serena to take on his younger brother--Niet--as her next squire. She did so without hesitation.
Paxron, despite being four years Niet's senior, regarding Niet as his best friend. The two had many differences, though--with Niet being hotter headed, easier to anger, and more inclined to break rules--they spent much of their limited free time in one another's company.
It was on one of these occasions, stealing a few minutes break in the courtyard, when Niet pointed out a smaller page girl practicing grappling. Small, her dark hair in a messy brain, and wiry in her frame, she was repeatedly flattened by the other girl she trained again. However, it never seemed to slow her. After a few minutes of watching, Paxron couldn't help but feel impressed. The girl, despite losing time and time again, didn't hesitated to stand and ask for another opportunity to master the movement. As soon as Niet was called back to his own lessosn, Paxron approached the page and corrected her grip to better combat her foe. The girl thanked him and managed to use the grip with success. Paxron felt a surge of pride and, as the lesson was dismissed, asked the Page Master about the girl. The girl, small for her age, was proving to be determined though the Page Master admitted to having doubts that she would be able to pass all of the tests to move into squire training the following year.
It was this, more than anything, that made Paxron approach the page girl the following morning and ask if she would want extra training to help catch up with her larger peers. And, thus, he began to spend his free time training Eldin, with the help of Niet, who took the girl under his wing as well.
When it came time for Eldin's trial to move from page to squire, Paxron found himself too anxious to think of much else. He managed to find the time to join those in watching the trials. When Eldin managed to throw her opponent in grappling, Paxron yelled himself hoarse. It was then that Paxron realized he needed to keep training her. Slipping away from the trials, Paxron requested permission to train the girl as his squire from King Azric and Queen Paranella. Both agreed.
And Eldin became his squire.
Unfortunately, the training plans of years that he envisioned were cut short when whispers of war began to reach the castle. One night, after a particularly grueling day of practice, patrols, war meetings, and guard duties, he was roused from his bed by a messenger. Rushing to the throne room, he was greeted with a letter and a request to burn it once he had read it.
The letter contained orders.
Orders to remove Princess Kalia of Kelkor from the castle and bring her, in secret, to her uncle's court of Alamore. The safest route, as decided by council, was scrawled over the paper. He stayed awake that night, realizing what this might mean for the Kingdom and memorizing the path they would take. With the sun burning to the east at dawn, he burned the letter and began to prepare for the ride to Alamore.
A ride that he would never see to its completion....
