The Perils of Comfort

Perspective is everything.
Please take 2-minutes to read the pictures below from my buddy Alex Starr's new book, "Rewrite the Rules."
It is funny how life sometimes smacks you in the face with reminders and a dose of the best medicine you could ever receive...PERSPECTIVE.
As for me, I did not get enough sleep last night. Erin and I have an extremely booked week, so the hours of sleep will have to be sacrificed just a bit. This left me feeling groggy and slow this morning as we got up at 530am. (I am pretty hardcore about RARELY ever waking before 6, but this week here we are).
Why am I hardcore about sleep?
Because when you are tired, negative thoughts can creep in, you don't feel like yourself, you won't recover well, and ultimately it is poor for your long term health which is should be main priority in your life.
Okay you've heard me talk about all this before, so why the pictures of this book?
Well, I don't feel tired anymore lol. And this book is the reason.
I woke up in a bed, next to the person I love, in our home which is located in a city that we love, with all the people and resources around us that comprise one hell of an awesome community.
This book gave me PERSPECTIVE this morning.
The craziest thing, I wasn't even going to open that book. I did so because I was looking for a creative spark to help me write this. And wouldn't you know, the first page I flip to is the lesson from above.
Fuckkkkk I love the universe sometimes.
Moral of my story is if you are reading this, whether it is off of a laptop, phone, Ipad, whatever....that alone is more privilege than ANY OF OUR ANCESTORS ever had.
And the realization that most of your "problems" you make up within yourself every day because you have the privilege to worry about them. Just imagine if you had to worry about where your water/food/shelter were coming from...would the problems that cause you anxiety today even exist?!?
Probably not.
Happy Tuesday!!! I hope this brought you the same punch in the gut and perspective as it did for me.

p.s. today I am grateful for the track pack I am about to go run with. I thoroughly enjoy every Tuesday morning with my friends who show up to run their best mile.
