Hard work is overrated.

I will say it again, hard work is overrated.
Which leaves calculated work / decisions to be underrated.
While hard work, sweat, and brute force get glorified...
slow and steady, calculated logical thought/action... most often never get noticed.
I don't just say any of this, I know it to be fact based on my own life.
Before today I have written hundreds of emails that fall into the categories of health, wealth, and happiness.
And one theme they all have a connection to, is I want to help inspire and motivate you to work a bit smarter with the time you have here on planet earth.
Here is an example I think most people can relate to.
In the long run, who do you think will earn more success and satisfaction from life?
Person A or Person B
Person A: Clocks into their 40+ per hour week job. Sits at desk all day. Does their best to be seen as a "hard worker," so they show up early and stay late. They skip their own routines to satiate the need to be seen as the hard worker for the company. Everyone around them knows them as a "hard worker" ... yet deep down the person is treading on water.
Person B: Works at the same company as person A. Has spoken up to their manager about how work life balance is vital to them, and has showcased that their productivity goes up if they are healthy and happy. Has a stand up desk. Does not care to be seen as a "hard worker," only cares about the specific goals and objectives their goals have been tied to. Everyone knows them to be the person that does what needs to be done to hit the initiatives, but also the person who seems to have a lot of life and satisfaction outside the office.
You and me both know real life versions of each person.
When it comes down to it, person B is a long term thinker. They understand that life is a culmination of every decision you make throughout your days.
And if you are constantly focused on working hard, and being seen as the "hard worker," it will take away time and energy away from strategic thought that would allow you to orchestrate a life that earns you way more success and fulfillment then if you just put your head down and worked hard every day.
Here is another easy example that I was explaining to someone yesterday.
If you make a paycheck raise your hand.
Great.
Now how is your money earning you more money after that paycheck hits your bank account?!?!?
Person A and B both make a paycheck by the way.
^^^ this is strategic/logical/calculated thought that you can literally do in your underwear on your couch.
Person B may not be seen as the hardest worker, yet they have earned substantial wealth compared to person A because they have set themselves up in a system where they make calculated decisions for their future.
It has nothing to do with working so damn hard you have no energy for anything else.
So the questions now are...
Where can you implement this approach in all areas of your life?
Where can you be more calculated?
Where can you take the foot off the gas pedal that is driving you into a ditch right now, and instead, slow down and point the car in a new/more targeted direction?

p.s. I never ended up becoming employed as an Engineer after earning my degree in Systems Engineering... yet I am forever grateful for the principles I learned during that time of my life. They have helped me in so many areas.
