Don't talk about it, BE ABOUT IT!

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.”― Mahatma Gandhi
Have you ever had a friend that would talk non-stop about what they are "going" to do? Rather than BEING the person that actually does it?
Or you had a teacher that you paid good money to learn from...only to find out they don't actively practice that subject, or lack real world experience in that subject?
I will be blunt, this pisses me off. Especially the teaching one because education should be rooted in EXPERIENCE... and honestly if your friend is a talker, that's their loss and doesn't impact masses like public education does.
I won't fall into the trap in my own email, so I will stop talking about it, and show what BEING about it looks like.
- Were you extremely happy with your K-12, collegiate, and post-collegiate experience? If not, continue reading...otherwise this email is not for you.
- Because you were not happy with your experience, what are you doing to improve the experience for yourself moving forward?
- Assuming you may have kids one day, or already have kids, EDUCATION is/will be paramount to someone you love dearly, so what are you DOING to improve it?
Here's where the being about it comes in...I absolutely despised my academic experience...even though I got A's and scholarships. It was not worth my time/money/energy when I look back.
It lacked much of what I enjoy about life today as an entrepreneur...
- FREEDOM of creative thought
- Truly supportive communities, rather than ultra-competitive cesspools.
- Learning LIFE skills that transfer to all areas of life
- CULTURE (learning diversities of cultures from around the world)
^^^I am fully aware that some schools may have these things, but I won't stop doing something about this until it is the norm everywhere.
And right now I am being about it and #doingWIT (Doingwit.org) as the facilitator of a 6-credit college course for teenagers. Last night was my second class of this Fall semester. :)
Shoutout to Sarah Hernholm for starting a program for teens that focuses on #doingWIT (Whatever It Takes) to give these future leaders of our world a safe space to connect, create, and build positive impact through entrepreneurship.
Also, thank you Sarah for believing in me and giving me the space to achieve a life goal of mine to be a youth educator. It means the world to me.
I stated all of the above because we all are "that friend" or "that teacher" in some aspects of our life. We are "talking" about it, rather than fully BEING about it.
So my call to action for you today is to start BEING about it in terms of your own self-education and improvement. The first step to changing the world, is changing ourselves. And if we all focused more on this, we then have the overflow of energy to spread to others around us and truly change lives for the better.
When we strive together, we THRIVE TOGETHER. <3
#thriveon y'all! GO rock your Wednesday!
