“For to have the fruition of God the Trinity, after whose image we are made, is indeed the fullness of our joy, than which there is no greater.”

St. Augustine of Hippo

Editor’s Note

Pope Leo XIV spoke at a conference marking the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, and some of his remarks were making waves online, especially on facebook shorts and TikTok, “Before I continue my formal remarks, I would just like to apologize for being a little late, and also ask for your patience with me. I am not yet one month into the new job, so there are a lot of learning experiences. But I am very happy to be with you this morning.”

It is with this humility that we should approach the topic of this Sunday’s readings, the Holy Trinity. My father-in-law, while in the seminary for the deaconate, had a professor advise not to go more than 5 minutes in a homily that was on the Trinity because there’s only so much we know about God’s mysterious nature. Any longer, and you’d likely end up preaching heresy. The USCCB published an announcement of their 2025 Portrait of the Permanent Diaconate, produced in conjunction with the Center for Applied Research in the Apostolate at Georgetown. Check it out below.

Also, breaking Friday morning, the canonization of Bl. Carlo Acutis and Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati has been set for September 7, 2025. I have the announcement article from CNA linked below along with an article on Frassati’s second miracle involving a seminarian form the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

Enjoy!

Sunday Reading Summary - Link to Readings

Solemnity of The Most Holy Trinity

First Reading – Proverbs 8: 22-31

Second Reading – Romans 5: 1-5

Gospel – John 16: 12-15

This Sunday’s readings for the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity invite us to marvel at the mystery of God’s eternal love and unity. From the Book of Proverbs, we hear that Divine Wisdom was present before creation, rejoicing in all that God made. St. Paul reminds us that through Christ, we are justified by faith and filled with hope, even in suffering—because God's love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. In the Gospel, Jesus promises that the Spirit of Truth will guide us, glorify Him, and lead us deeper into God’s plan. Together, these readings reveal a God who is not distant, but a communion of love.
