A Rogue by Any Other Name

Hello Dear Readers!
What does Benjamin Franklin have to do with Regency romance? Well, not much that I'm aware of except that his Autobiography features in my next book--Teach a Rogue New Tricks.
I've written a blog post all about it on my website, so check it out! The genre of writing we know of as self help was in short supply during the Regency, so poor Cass doesn't have much to guide him out of his misbehavior. However, there is Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography, published in 1790. A brief chapter outlining 14 ways to be more virtuous is all Franklin gives his readers to work with, but Cass takes it and runs.
Then adds a few maxims of his own, such as:
- On the topic of fake facial hair: A man who feels silly is not likely to feel seductive.
- Beware of boredom; it is a bitch that bites hard.
- On the topic of lusting after innocents: Don't. If you cannot help it, don't for the love of God act on it, you cock-led reprobate.
- When lecturing a scoundrel, never use said cad's first name. It might make him want to kiss you.
That last one's more for friends of scoundrels, I presume, but Cass is not the most meticulous man in England. Thankfully, he has Ada to organize him just a bit.
Have you ever read Franklin's autobiography? I'm sure there's better parts than the chapter on moral improvement!
