CETI Thanksgiving
Nov 20, 2025 3:56 pm
Dear ,
Happy Thanksgiving! Next week, across the United States, families and communities will come together to share a meal and express the things in their lives that they are thankful for. While this is certainly not a custom in Latin America, many people in the CETI community have adapted the spirit of this celebration for their own contexts. So, we invite you into a Thanksgiving practice with us!
Join us in giving thanks for people, work, and the world...
- CETI celebrates hundreds of curious, committed, and faith-filled students who are exploring through our programs this year how their faith connects to and impacts every area of life.
- We are grateful for a shift in the way we see our work and our place in the faith landscape of Latin America as an organization that can uniquely partner with others to create innovative formation programs to address the questions and issues of our times.
- As a community embedded in Abya Yala (the American continent), we give thanks for the diverse ecosystems, peoples, and cultures in our region that sustain and enrich our lives.
Gathering in a spirit of thankfulness also tends to bring up grief over who and what is missing. Join us in lament:
- We lament the state of the Church in Latin America, where personality and prosperity preaching are on the rise, but the commitment to faithfulness and discipleship remains shallow.
- We lament the extreme levels of inequality that exist in our world today that limit the work of CETI and many other organizations, as well as the well-being and the opportunities of the people we serve.
- We lament the catastrophic loss of life throughout our planet, due to wars, violence, climate disasters, and health crises; and we grieve the abuse of power has led to this.
Then we take action. In a world with so much pain and so many issues, it is hard to know where to start, but whether it is helping a neighbor next door or supporting a cause across the world, let our Thanksgiving practices lead us into loving one another.
As we give thanks and take action together, we invite you to extend your gratitude through generosity. If you'd like to support the work of CETI, your donation can help us form young leaders in the Latin American Church who are brave in asking hard questions, safe for others who are working out their faith, and hopeful in pursuing justice and transformation in their communities.
