THE MONDAY LEADOFF

Hi my friend 🫡

There is a basic human need to feel valued and important. One strategy for achieving this involves publicly acknowledging and celebrating the contributions of unsung heroes. Tip of the cap to the legendary coach John Wooden for introducing me to this concept in his classic book, Wooden on Leadership.

At least once per day, over the next seven days, I'm going to publicly praise team members and students. I'm challenging you to join in and do the same.

WHAT'S BEEN WORKING

1.

If something is working, double down

I used to do this when I was an avid Madden player; run the same play until they prove that they can stop you! Off of the virtual gridiron, this is something to keep in mind with coaching and leadership. What's working well for you right now as a leader? Double down on it.

2.

Being an "off-ball" coach

Delegating more responsibilities to assistant coaches has been a Godsend. Having assistants help hit grounders to the team has freed me up to be more effective. Instead of yelling feedback across the field, I can be in their proximity, pull players aside, and rapidly implement corrections.

QUOTE I'M PONDERING

"The most common approach is very seldom the most effective and most efficient.” -Tim Ferriss

Nothing but the best,

Matt

P.S. Wherever you are, consider expanding your current role. What are you trying to master? Is there a way for you to integrate that into your current work role?
