Reflections | Priming | Get Busy

THE MONDAY LEADOFF

Hi my friend 🫡

Another high school baseball season is in the books. Here are the five most important reflections I have:

  1. The pursuit of mastery is contagious and inspiring.
  2. Relationships are more important than everything else.
  3. Cooler heads prevail; always. Emotionally charged decisions are never helpful.
  4. Delegation to the right people makes coaching more fun and practices more productive - all while freeing up energy and brain focus.
  5. Controlling the narrative is a massively positive PR move. I started sending a weekly newsletter to players/families this season, highlighting weekly accomplishments. It was a major success. (It is super simple too. If you want a hand with setting this up, let me know. I'd love to help you)

RULES OF THUMB

Don't make 100 decisions when 1 will do.

You want a wide funnel and a tight filter.

Doing something that’s hard is a lot more fun than doing something that’s easy.

WHAT'S BEEN WORKING

1.

NSDR in the afternoon

I have dabbled in meditation and breathwork for the past 15 years. The linked Huberman audio is among the top tools I've come across. It only takes 10 minutes and can be done in place of a nap, when stressed, or for clear thinking before a game. When I use it, I get immediate results. I plan on integrating this with my athletes next season.

2.

Priming in the morning

I'm neutral on Tony Robbins, but his priming method has some serious value. It's been working like a gem in my personal life. I'm crafting ways to incorporate alternative versions of priming into my athletes' pregame routines for next season.

QUOTE I'M PONDERING

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer the negative elements in your life, don’t sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy!”
