Winter is officially beginning to descend on our neck of the woods here in EAst Texas. We haven't started using our wood stove yet, but we have started drinking more things like egg nog and hot cocoa. My favorite wintertime drink has to be wassail though. If you haven't ever had it, just do a search for wassail recipes and whip some up. It's so yummy! :D

I know you're wondering what the heck any of this has to do with writing. Two things: there's nothing like sipping on a hot cup of wassail while doing some journaling or creative work when it's cold outside, and the mixture of ingredients in wassail is such a great reminder of how mixing a few seemingly unrelated ingredients together can result in something delicious.

What ingredients have you been mixing into your writing lately? It's OK to mix things up. If you're suffering fromblank page syndrome, why not break the rules a bit and see what happens? Could your protagonist be a plant with humans as the villains? Could one character be moving forward in time while another experiences time in reverse? Could your hero suddenly break out in a poetic song while in the middle of a dangerous quest? If you think I'm a little batty this morning, all of these ideas are from popular stories. :) What interesting mixes might you come up with?
