[Whatchamacallit] Ingredients of a scary story
Oct 22, 2025 1:31 pm
Hey there, ,
**Reminder**
We will be having an open mic time in our regular meeting on October 29, so be working on a scary, creepy, or suspenseful story you’d like to share. It can be up to 750 words, or you can go shorter—however the spirit moves you. 👻.
Writing a story is like making a cake. You have to include the right ingredients.
In our meeting this week, let’s discuss some of the ingredients needed for a story that is deliciously scary.
If you aren’t a horror fan, that’s OK. I’m not personally a fan of gore and violence. There are lots of ways to built tension and get your reader’s heart pounding without going that route.
If you can’t make it or want to read ahead, we’ll be using this article as the basis of our conversation.

The Wednesday Writers Whatchamacallit will meet today starting at 12 PM Eastern, 11 AM Central, 10 AM Mountain and 9 AM Pacific. Hope to see you there.
