What I've been up to

• Still up to my ears in drafting the new novel. I’m putting all my focus into this one project for now.

A creature of myth and legend defies her predatory urges for the sake of love. An ordinary woman braves her phobia to save her love's soul.

Beyond the Hills They Passed

Each season, the Diviners read the auspices to protect the desert dwellers from the Great River's droughts and floods. One day, the High Diviner takes Urti’s little sister. No auspice bearer has ever left the Augrium alive.

Books and music

• Reading: City of Last Chances by Adrian Tchaikovsky. It took me some time to warm up to this novel because of the large cast of characters as, lately, I’ve been preferring to read more personal stories. Even so, I was enthralled with Tchaikovsky’s skill in creating such a diverse set of characters, each with unmistakable individuality. It took the whole novel to get to know them, but the ending was so absolutely worth it. And Tchaikovsky’s take on how revolutions happen is absolutely hilarious (with a tasteful measure of tragedy).

• Music: Brooke Bentham. A voice both gentle and strong. I have trouble finding a single song of hers I don’t love.
