Tom Brady Is The Devil!

A Completely Unbiased Devotion from a Wounded Falcons Fan.

Tom Brady Is The Devil

It’s almost football season, that time of year. And whether you’re a fan of college football or professional football, you KNOW the name Tom Brady. The man is the undisputed greatest of all time. As an Atlanta Falcons fan, I know the name all too well. As you probably are aware, in the Superbowl for the 2016 NFL season, the Falcons were up 28-3 against Tom Brady’s New England Patriots, with little more than one quarter left in the game. The game seemed all but over, but Tom Brady’s resilience knows no bounds. The Falcons took their foot off the gas, eased up, and Tom rallied his team, chipping away at the Falcons lead, eventually tying the game to go into overtime, where he led his team to victory. As a Falcons fan, this was easily one of the worst days of my life, and I muttered under my breath “Tom Brady is the devil….”

While Tom Brady is almost definitely NOT Lucifer Incarnate, I DO think he and the devil have something in common that we need to be aware of: Neither one is giving up the attack until the clock runs out.

“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” - 1 Peter 5:8

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” - Ephesians 6:12

The Bible tells us constantly that the devil is on the offensive. He is constantly ready to attack, and until that time when time runs out, he isn’t going to stop that attack. You may be saved, you may not have to worry about your eternal salvation, but that doesn’t mean he has any plans of leaving you alone. You can’t just coast the rest of this life and merrily be on your way. The enemy is going to be fighting against you until your dying breath, until the clock runs out. No lead is safe. If he can’t have your soul, he still wants your joy. And if he can’t keep you in torment, he can at least keep you busy. C.S. Lewis said the plans of hell are simple, “to make the noise of man's world so loud that he can no longer hear the voice of his God.” Many of us are under the constant attack of busyness and noise in today’s age. But God’s word also promises in James 4:7 that if we resist the devil, he will flee. This week, how can you resist the attack of busyness and noise? How can you find time to go on the offensive and make sure you aren’t taking your foot off the brakes as you live for Christ and expand the Kingdom?

Thanks for reading, God bless you, and God bless the Atlanta Falcons.
