New Design, a new "MINI" a new HomePod, and 5G
It's finally here!
CEO of Apple Steve Cook and partnered industry leaders revealed the brand new series of iPhones--iPhone 12--among other new Apple products this week.
Thanks to Covid-19, the big annual Apple reveal was delayed a few weeks from its typical September date, and was done via video announcement rather than in front of a live audience.
Nonetheless, there's lots to be excited about if you're a fan of Apple, or really anything tech. Here's what's matters most:
1) iPhone 12's two "flagship" models are the Pro and ProMax. The ProMax will be the biggest model EVER, and will cost $1,099.
2) The Pro Models have tougher glass screens, better CPU and GPU for faster performance than ever, LIDAR sensors for improved lighting and camera performance, and capacity for shooting and editing video in HDR.
3) Two "Minis" have been introduced (the first since those classic iPod Minis?)--a HomePod Mini speaker system, and the sleeker iPhone 12 Mini for $699.
4) The first iPhone design update in 3 years shows a return to the flat-edged iPhone 4 style, each model will be MagSafe for wireless charging, and...
5G for all!
Cook turned things over to Apple's VP of Wireless Software Arun Mathias to explain how 5G works and what it means.
While 5G infrastructure is still in the early stages of deployment in America, all iPhones will be capable of capturing and harnessing those signals in plenty of high-population spaces.
Ultimately, 5G means faster. And as time goes on and the tech improves, faster and faster. Faster downloads, uploads, page loads, and everything else.
