🎬 New Live Show - What recruiters want to see on resumes

May 02, 2023 2:09 pm

Greetings!

This issue is all about resumes.

Almost daily news of layoffs, including today's story about Morgan Stanley planning 3000 more job cuts, is scary.

But the truth is that people are still getting hired.

Companies cutting jobs might be hiring in other areas. For example, Amazon just began another round of mass layoffs. But, a search on LinkedIn for jobs at Amazon today turned up 1487 results.

I'm excited to have my friend and colleague, Tom Powner, join me on my Smarter Career and Business Moves Live show on Thursday to talk about what recruiters and hiring managers want to see on resumes.

It will be broadcast on LinkedIn and YouTube at 11 am Eastern. Register on LinkedIn to be notified or pop over to my profile to join us.

🗒️ Resume Not Getting Results? Time To Turn Your Boring Employment History Into A Marketing Tool

image

Do you send your resume out just hoping for the best? Do you share it with friends with the caveat that you just threw it together?

As a recruiter and career professional, I’ve looked at thousands of resumes.

Most of the people I talk to today think their resume is “not too bad, probably needs a little tweaking. When I look at their resume, I know why it's not working.

It's rubbish.

If your resume isn't getting results, it's probably because it's a long, boring employment history.

The resumes that get results

✅ go back in detail 10-15 years, only

✅ provide brief details on recent positions

✅ include achievements with quantitative results

✅ are filled with a variety of action words

✅ are written in modern sans serif fonts like Calibri

✅ are ATS-compatible (that doesn't mean no color)

Writing resumes that get results isn't easy.

Most of the potential clients I talk to tell me how difficult it's been for them to try and write their own resume.

That's why they decide to work with me.

But, I know not everyone has the budget to work directly with me. So I created a package of customizable, ATS-compatible templates you can use to create a high-quality, effective resume while staying within your budget.

The downloadable Resume Pro Pack includes 3-ATS compatible templates (US and A4 versions), a resume writing guide that teaches you how to create achievement statements, and 300 action words to use in your resume.

If you're struggling to write your resume, these easy-to-follow resume templates will help you create a professional resume that will increase your chances of getting an interview and landing a job.
