Our take: Offensive guard Mateo Lucero received his first NCAA D1 offer this past week from Texas State. The 6'5" 285lbs lineman has been putting time in with his Clarkson Football North team and will be showcasing his talents down South this upcoming season. Look for him to get more love as he gets his name out there.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER HEADLINES
- The CFL and XFL have announced that they have put any talks of collaboration on pause for the time being and won’t be pursuing any joint ventures. This comes after an announcement a few months back that the two leagues were in talks about a joint collaboration, leading many to suspect that a merger was on the horizon, but at least for now, the three-down league is safe ... Now it's training camp and nobody even remembers about the potential XFL fiasco. Funny how that works eh?
- N’Keal Harry’s agent has formally requested a trade from the Patriots. The 2019 1st-round pick hasn’t lived up to expectations these past 2 years since being drafted, although he’s battled injuries and an off-year for the Patriots offense this past season. He’s only had 45 catches, 414 yards, and 4 TDs in 21 games since entering the league, and his agent Jamal Tooson feels as if a fresh start is in Harry’s best interest.
- CFC60 OT Tyrone Webber has snagged offers from Syracuse, UNLV, and Buffalo in the past week continuing on his offer roll, while he’s also announced that he’ll be releasing his top 5 on July 25th. CFC100 DL Isaiah Hastings has also kept his tear going, picking up Michigan and Virginia recently.
- New Orleans Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata has been suspended for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. Onyemata will still be eligible to participate in all preseason activities, and will be able to return full-time to the active roster after the Saints' week seven game at Seattle. The Nigerian born standout immigrated to Winnipeg in 2011 where he attended the University of Manitoba before getting selected 120th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft by the Saints. Onyemata has amassed 167 tackles and 16 sacks in his five year NFL career.

The vertical jump is one of the most popular tests at any combine, and is a number that an athlete carries with them wherever they go. Although not every position has to maximally jump in a game, the vertical jump is still a valuable measurement for football players.

It is a reliable way to measure an athlete’s lower body explosiveness. Lower body explosiveness is critical to every position on the field, whether it is a linemen exploding out of his stance, a linebacker exploding his hips through a tackle, a running back exploding after a cut, a DB or receiver exploding into the air or out of a break, or even a quarterback or kicker explosively driving their hips to generate a harder throw or kick ...
