Dr. Ron Epstein’s book, “Responsible Living: Explorations in Applied Buddhist Ethics - Animals, Environment, GMOs, Digital Media” explores pollution, animal cruelty, genetically modified foods, and our addiction to digital and social media. Available on Amazon and for free download in the link in bio. Dr. Epstein describes how outer environmental and social problems mirror humanity’s inner struggle with selfishness, greed, and desire. By connecting Buddhist concepts: compassion, causation, and moral precepts to these issues, Dr. Epstein provides guidance for ethical conduct in today’s world. Does genetic engineering have the potential to be as dangerous a nuclear holocaust? This and other environmental and moral dilemmas of the modern world are discussed in this collection of essays which use Buddhist texts and academic resources for analysis. About the author: Dr. Ron Epstein is a retired lecturer in the philosophy department at San Francisco State University, founding member of Dharma Realm Buddhist University, and holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. He started his lifelong study and practice of Buddhism at 24 under the guidance of the Tripitaka Master Hsüan Hua. He compiled “Buddhism A to Z,” and has written extensively on the contemporary application of Buddhism and Buddhist ethics. He also co-sponsored legislation which banned for the first time the growing of GMOs in northern California on a county-wide basis. #buddhistbooks #environmentaljustice #socialcommentary #buddhism #guidance

I saw this tree bathing in the early evening sunlight, an empty bench underneath. I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice to sit on that bench with someone and enjoy the warm afternoon?" The peacock standing behind me read my thoughts after I had greeted it, and... strolled up to the tree as I quietly took a series of quick shots of this handsome fellow. Then I thought, "Wouldn't it be nice if he went on the bench?" And again, reading my mind, he proceeded to pose on the bench. Thank you, kind sir, you made a good day better ? Two other shots from today - blossoms have been fully realized, and simple star shaped purple flowers near ToB ?
How wonderful, dear sweet friend, that you have grown and blossomed while I was away. It brings me delight to see more buds bloom every time I return and leave my dorm.
It's turning into spring here. Lots of people here and around the world are falling ill. If no one has told you recently, please trust your instincts and take care of yourself. ? May the simple sunlight bring you joy on darker days; may its warmth encourage your inner warmth to arise so that you accept yourself for exactly who you are in this instant; and may you be well in every way. My classmate pointed out you can see a footprint in the second photo. Do you see it? ?
First blooms of pink plum blossoms. I can't even wrap my head around how I missed these sights last year. Last week's been tough. To quote what someone told me before, "I think the journey ahead will be easier if you don't hold all of this in your heart." To letting go and finding beauty ?
