A young lady reached out to me the other day to ask me how to get engagement on her posts on social media. She was quite tired of posting and not getting any comments or likes. And yet some people post and in an hour, they have 50 comments and 200 likes.

So I shared with her the normal answers I give everyone who asks me this -

1. Post regularly. You can't post one day and go quiet for five, and then when you come back on the 6th day, expect the people to have been waiting for you. Well, you can do that if you are already acelebrity or something. But since you're not, post regularly. Now this may be everyday, twice a day, once in two days... it depends on you.
2. Engage. When you do post, engage with those who comment on your post. Some people post and then go silent. So people comment and then they hear crickets. No one to respond to them. They quickly learn to ignore your posts too. Again, you can get away with this if you are a celebrity.
3. Engage on Other people's posts. You see, social media is give and take. If you never engage with other people's posts, I tell you they will ignore yours too. Petty, but hey, you're not a celeb so....
4. Be Social. Some of you are too serious. Everyday deep and motivational posts, haba. It's social media. Be social, play, laugh, post a goofy picture. Let us know you are human. Thank you.
5. Give Value. Now this one is the "koko". Even if you don't do all other four, please give value. People cannot ignore value. Like bees to honey, the people your content serves will flock to you.

Now this number 5 brings me to the main gist for today. How do you consistently give value? How do you churn out valuable content day after day?

Well, the answer is simple. It's the same way you make sure you have something smart to say everytime. Learn something new everyday!

If you are learning something new everyday, you will have no problem giving out something valuable everyday! From the abundance of the mind, the mouth would speaketh!

So HOW do you learn something new everyday?

Simple. Read a book, listen to a podcast or read an article from a relevant website daily. Make the effort to learn something new about varying topics - sports, politics, your industry, world news.

And when you find yourself in conversation, you will always have a fresh perspective to dish out; which easily makes you the smartest in the room. So it's garbage in, garbage out. Or more like value in, value out. Get it? Now that's the secret of all the seemingly smart people you see daily.
