I was born and bred in Lagos.

At least that is what I like to believe.

The truth is that I was born and raised in Lagos, but we moved to Benin when I was about fifteen years old.

Now this move came with a serious culture shock. Lagos is far from Benin, and I don't mean just geographically. The first thing I missed was the absence of cool TV and radio stations. This was in 1995 and DSTV wasn't a thing then. Satellite TV was owned by only the very rich, which we were not a part of.

So Benin didn't have fun TV stations like AIT, but they had, in addition to the state-owned EBS, a private station called ITV. It, like most of the private cool stuff, was owned by the Igbinedions. Now, the thing about this was that every year, for the one week preceding September 11th, there would be nothing aired on TV all week. It would be reserved for the celebration of their founder's birthday! The Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion celebrated his birthday every year for one week. One whole week!

I used to be so frustrated at missing my favourite programs, because EBS was just a joke (at the time, I don't know about now o!) I swore that I would own a TV station just so I could celebrate myself for one full week!

Okay. That was about twenty five years ago.

I'm about to be forty on the 7th of July.

I don't have a TV station yet. But there is nothing that stops me from celebrating myself for one full week. I mean, why not? Esama did it, so why not me? Infact, I can do more than a week sef, is it your birthday?

So, starting July 6th, here is the program for my 40th birthday.
