COVID-19 IS NOT HAPPENING TO US, BUT FOR US.

Dear friend,

How was your weekend? Trust good. Eid Mubarak to all the muslims on my list. God bless you and yours.

imageSo what are we discussing today? You see that quote here, it is pregnant! When John Obidi said it at the just concluded Headstart Summit, I had an AHA moment.

It just struck me - yes! This is what I always preach. How you look at a thing changes the power that it has over you.

I was thinking of the quote in terms of our attitude towards the times and how we can maximize this period.

This weekend, something happened that gave a completely new dimension to this statement. Stay with me.

I posted on my social media on Friday about giving my children projects- to Google one famous personality each? If you missed it, see post here πŸ‘‡

Well, I also shared on Saturday of how my second daughter had written her summary in a word file and attached it in an email to me. I was so impressed and you all were too, from your comments on that post.

And then it hit me! It was COVID-19!

I'll explain. At the start of the lockdown, her school started online classes. The first two weeks were fraught with problems as everyone was trying to understand what was going on. Then they took a break for Easter.

On resumption, they had looked at the problems from the two earlier weeks and come up with solutions. The school had opened email accounts for each child and sent same to the parents.

In their emails, the children received notes, lesson timetables and meeting IDs for the zoom classes. They also had their accounts on the school portal where they did assignments and hosted lesson notes.

I watched with awe as my daughter in year 5, navigated the portals so deftly. She was a natural. And so were the other children, like my 12yr old who is quite tech-averse but managed well; and my 6year old who insisted that he did not need my help in switching between zoom classes and google classroom.

That same Friday, the school sent a scratch APP to my 6 year old and gave him an assignment to code. All the kids did the assignment and I now I have games from them to show! 😳

Why am I sharing this? The progress they have made with technology could not have been possible in such a short time if not for COVID-19. Today they are at home with the computers and I am looking forward to them becoming the future Elon Musks of this world.

Indeed, this COVID-19 is happening for us.

Care to share ways in which you have developed, which you may not have if not for a time like this?

For me, just this past weekend, I built a landing page for a friend's book from scratch and I'm feeling all shades of awesome. πŸ’ƒπŸ’ƒCheck it out here, tell me what you think. He is giving out two free chapters so go ahead and download them while you are at it.

I also baked my first ever cake, cut my husband's hair for the first time and rode a bicycle for the first time- all during this lockdown.

What about you? Share and let's hail each other. Anything you accomplished is worth stating, including making your hair yourself. So go on and share....
