Welcome to all new subscribers to the list!
The email list almost quadrupled in size yesterday when Eldon Unrau, who runs the Manitoba Paramedics Facebook group, was kind enough to share a link to the blog.
I'm incredibly grateful for all the support I've received for this project so far.
In case you haven't noticed, living a "normal" life as a paramedic is all but impossible. And, on top of that, we are at higher risk for developing mental health problems.
I won't say I've heard enough about that, because the research and advocacy being done to change the workplace environment is incredibly important.
But, this blog and this email is going to work on an incredibly important missing piece.
What can we, as paramedics, do... right now... to optimize our lives, increase our health and resilience, and become masters of our trade.
Currently I'm writing about how taking advantage of on-shift "opportunities to move" is a subtle, but profoundly impactful way, to improve your health and resilience. In case you've missed those articles, here are all three in the series (including the newest one, published yesterday).
Part One: Paramedics, Step-Counters, and the Mental Health Connection
... highlighting the connection between short term reduction of movement and it's implications to mental health
Part Two: How More Movement Can Make Paramedics More Resilient
... the fascinating science behind why movement is such a powerful influence on our health and resilience
Part Three: Noticing Opportunities to Move When On-Shift as Paramedic
... step one in taking the knowledge and putting it into action
Enjoy!
P.S. My email inbox is always open to questions, comments and suggestions, but I would especially appreciate your comments on the blog. If you have any thoughts to share, please speak up!
