MEDIC MASTERY
OPTIMIZED MEDIC

I. Name Change!
I’m doing a little “re-branding”.
Going forward, this project will be called “Optimized Medic” (www.optimizedmedic.com).
Important: You can expect future emails to arrive from [email protected].
There are many reasons for this change.
The biggest reason is that this project has a lot more to do with being “optimized” than it does with “mastery”.
Optimized = Feeling Energetic & Confident + Being Healthy + Feeling At Your Best
Mastery = Knowing Your Shit Forwards and Backwards + Excellence in Practice
You can have mastery without being optimized. It’s fairly classic, in fact, that the most brilliant practitioners will sometimes have some of the most glaring deficits of health or life balance.
But, very importantly, having a foundation of energy and health paves the way for the pursuit of mastery.
Who learns better?
Someone who is near burnout or someone who feels energized?
Someone in a mental fog or someone who has crystal clear focus?
It’s pretty obvious, and well-backed by research, that the healthier you are, the better your condition for learning.
So, while I am certainly not abandoning the pursuit of mastery in my practice as a paramedic, this project will be mostly about creating the best conditions for flourishing within the constraints of the reality of a life in EMS.
Another reason for change: I want to highlight my little “side hustle” as an Optimize Coach.
Everyone has goals. Some goals are more clear than others. Many goals seem kind of abstract.
“I want to be fit” is an example of an abstract goal.
“I want to lose 10 pounds” is an example of a clear objective.
When I was focusing my efforts on fitness coaching, I would assess your situation and then lay out exactly what you needed to do, from my perspective, to get things going in the right direction.
As an Optimize Coach the approach is completely different.
Instead of spoon-feeding my clients, I come alongside them to help them create the plan themselves through a process of behaviour design.
What we end up with is sustainable, high-impact, meaningful change.
As much as I love arriving on scene to stabilize and transport a critically ill patient, this project of helping others successfully design the change they yearn for in their life is equally important to me… if not moreso.
So… Optimized Medic is the new name.
Because, above all, it’s about helping Medics flourish.
Whether you tune in only for the newsletter, or engage in the coaching too, I hope you find the project beneficial and consider sharing it with your friends.
May you flourish,
Brendan

III. Coaching
Figuring out fitness, nutrition and healthy habits within the constraints of your reality is my specialty. I’ve been at it for over 16 years.
We can get you started with a consultation for just $85. No ongoing commitment is required, but I do recommend meeting once per month for 3 months to get things rolling.
Hit reply to this email if you’re interested.
IV. A free month of Optimize
I listen to or read an Optimize +1 every day as part of my morning routine. The compound effect of having this dose of good advice and perspective has been immense. I highly recommend trying it out for yourself! With this link you can get one month free access to Optimize.
