When it All Seems Futile

Well, COVID-19 has afflicted over half a million people as of yesterday. And the USA moved into first place for number of infections. 


Where I live, it still feels like the calm before the storm. Our case load is still low. But the anxiety and uncertainty among my loved ones and peers at work is almost palpable.


I haven’t been spared from feelings of anxiety and uncertainty. Checking in on the situation dashboard to stay abreast of developments and trying to stay on top of a steady stream of protocol and procedure changes is taking its toll. 


By the end of my last week at work, after running half a dozen respiratory calls, I was painfully aware of how many unclean surfaces I touch. And how damn itchy my face seems to get when I try not to ever touch it. I realized that even though I’m reading and rereading my emoloyer's protocol changes, I am still making errors in their application. 


Honestly, I finished the week feeling like the efforts to avoid contamination are almost futile.
