(30 second Friday motivation)
I often think of my first workplace senior, a dude that taught me a ton on web design and front-end development - but beyond skills - I realised one thing in my time with him. I hated Conformity.
Conformity (from Wikipedia) - is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours to group norms, politics or being like-minded.
I love this quote by Henry Rollins:
When I decided to quit my job, I told him that I am thinking of going Freelance, and wanted to start my own little studio, and he should come with me - together we could do some awesome things.
He said something along the lines of:
"No, thanks. But I'm good where I am. At 5pm I leave the office, go home to my wife, crack open a beer, put on some TV and forget about work until the next day, and I'm fine with that."
It took me a long time to come to terms that people are just not like me and that that's fine. I'm glad people are happy where they are, but I want to surround myself and work with people who are more aligned with how I think about work and career.
I bet that's why you are here, reading this now, as well. Awesome!
Today is the Friday you realise that nothing can stop you - because you are a MAGIC SKELETON packed with meat, animated with electricity and driven by imagination! You have a cave in your face full of sharp bones to ingest energy and five tentacles at the end of each limb - You can do anything! Go, Magic Skeleton! Go!
What are you up to? Tell me. Just hit reply, I want to know.
