“But I don’t want to be away from you,” she blurted.
Not thinking of the impact of her words, she slapped her hand over her mouth, if only to stifle any more declarations she might regret. Heat rushed to her rosy cheeks as Taariq knelt down next to the edge of the bed. She sat up and dangled her feet off the side as he put his hands at each side of her thighs and peered at her.
“You don’t?”

“I can’t and won’t,” she said, standing up. Her hands clasped to his as she looked up at him, and lowered her voice to a whisper. “You can do whatever you want to me. Nobody has to know. I trust you.”
