The morning sun illuminated her decorated bedroom. Large paintings of fairy princesses hung on the walls. A variety of books lined the pink bookcase. A vanity sat in the corner of the room with make-up and costume jewelry strewn about the top. Her canopy bed adorned with sheer drapery and fairy lights sat flush against the wall. Nadine had the perfect assortment of little things in a room made for a princess, but this was no good morning. Lifting her head from the satin pillow, it pulsed with a throbbing pain. Her stomach feeling too sour to sit-up all the way, she placed her hand on her sweaty forehead before resting again. Every time she tried to get up, sickness overtook her body. 

“I’m never drinking again,” she said, her throat like sandpaper.

Normally, Nadine would appreciate the bright sun. It was the kind of day where the blue stretched across the expansive sky and birds sang overhead. She would have happily skipped along the sidewalk on her way to the park, where she would enjoy the swings and curly slide. Daddy Charles kept promising he’d take her to the park, but he was always so busy working in the kitchen at the restaurant across town. He hardly had time to see to it that Nadine followed her routines. As a matter of fact, he seemed more distant than ever. A good Daddy would have never let her consume so much alcohol without both punishments and aftercare. 

On her final attempt to get out of her princess bed, Nadine did a clumsy roll to the side, where she landed on the soft carpet with a thud. Even though it absorbed the impact, she knew she wouldn’t escape without a bruised hip. Crawling to the open bathroom door, she drug herself to the toilet. There, she would attempt to purge any remnants of her poor decisions from the previous night. Wrapping her fingers around the bathroom vanity, she pulled herself up.  

Racoon eyes stared back at her, still smudged with the mascara she had on the night before. Pink hair sat like a rat’s nest all bundled up on the top of her head in a messy bun. Although she had wide-set eyes, they were large and green, giving her a unique, yet adorable and child-like appearance. Taking cold water from the faucet, she splashed her face a few times, relishing in its refreshment. She was starting to feel like new again, if only it weren’t for the nagging pain in her head. Daddy Charles had left a note for her on the countertop, but she hadn’t noticed it until after she wiped away yesterday’s make-up. When it caught her eye, she almost hoped it was a punishment, or some kind of directive. She loved it when Daddy took control because she didn’t adhere to structure all that well on her own, but his sentiments would almost certainly fall short. Tears pressed against the back of her eyelids as she read every disappointing word. 

Dear Nadine,

I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry. It’s not you. You were everything a Daddy could ever hope for in a Little. I’ll be by after my shift to get my things.
