Hello friends!
Since this is my first newsletter, I thought it would be good to do a brief introduction to myself, and my two projects I’m writing.
First off, I’m a mom of five very energetic neurodivergent kids. As a family, we enjoy playing board and card games. Although I’m a crazy cat lady at heart, my husband and his allergies demand that our two cats stay outdoors (he likes to claim he’s allergic to their personalities. 🙄
I have two projects I am currently writing. The first is a murder mystery romcom that centers on Elise, a nineteen-year-old high school graduate, who is trying to solve the mystery of her dad’s murder while coaching her old high school cross-country team while keeping her attractive assistant coach, Dylan, at arm's length. I have a lot of history in running, including running on a nationally ranked team in high school, coaching a jr. high cross-country team, and a grandpa who ran ultra marathons into his sixties (he liked getting older because it put him into higher age brackets that were easier to win 🤣). It just made sense to tie my love for running into this series.
I plan to pitch this book to an agent at a writing conference I will be attending in May. Wish me luck!
My second project is titled the Valkyrie’s Revenge. It’s about Tove, a Viking woman who is stolen from her family by Odin and made into a Valkyrie. Stealing her memories, Odin turns her into his top killing machine to recruit men for his undead army but when she gets sent to earth (and to a hunky blacksmith who despises all Valkyrie for killing his father), her memories return.
In an effort to protect the new family and man she’s come to love, Tove brings the small Viking village she’s settled with into Asgard to wage war against Odin and the rest of the Norse gods. Can a single Valkyrie, ruthless and sassy as she may be, and a small village bring the gods to their knees? Will Tove and Marten’s love prevail amid secrets, bitterness, and Loki’s snarky interference?
I’ve been working on the above romantasy for a while and am planning to independently publish it in the future.
Now I have a question for you— if you could invite one character from either a book or a movie to Christmas dinner, who would it be and why?
I think I would invite Dylan, my main male character from my murder mystery series, because he’s a total hoot. I’m sure it would make for a loud dinner with plenty of laughs and even some drinks spurting out of some noses.
To give you an idea of what I meant here’s a clip from my book where Dylan is trying to catch up to Elise and her would-be-killer:
Look at me, driving like a boss and scoring a police escort. I drummed my fingers against the wheel in time with the beat of the perfect tune.
He's going the distance
He's going for speed
She's all alone (all alone)
All alone in her time of need
Behind me, lights flashed. This cop had been tailing me ever since I ran that red light two miles ago, and a few streets back, a second police car had joined him. Hey, the more the merrier.
“Let’s do this.”
So drop me a line and let me know what you would do for Christmas dinner with a fictional character and thanks for taking the time to be a part of my crew!
Love,
Molly Ann Stratford
Full family photos are impossible to come by, so here I am with my three youngest and our cat, Hobbes.
