At GiGi’s Playhouse Down Syndrome Achievement Centers we celebrate Down syndrome every day! March 21st (We Will Celebrate the Event on March 20th) is our day to share it with the world! The 21st day of March was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
WHAT: World Down Syndrome Day is a global event to raise public awareness, promote inclusivity, encourage advocacy, and support the wellbeing of those living with Down syndrome. GiGi’s Playhouse Miami is working alongside our network of 55 playhouses, throughout the United States and Mexico, and 82 countries globally, to celebrate with the community. List of activities for the day:
• South Florida’s First Business Expo for Businesses owned by individuals with Down Syndrome & Special Needs
• Pet Adoption & Pet Food Drive
• Local Vendors
• Music
• Snacks
• Free Marlins Tickets for those that donate bags of pet food
• Face Painting

WHY: We live in a world that is often separated based on differences. The time is now for people to come together regardless of their race, gender, diagnosis, sexual orientation, or religion. We need universal acceptance for all people, which is why we, the people of the Down syndrome community, are inviting you to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day with us. Let’s showcase that every person should be accepted for who they are.
Melissa, one of our adult participants, came to us wanting to find a job! We helped her find a job at EL Pimiento Restaurant and she even donated her first paycheck to us! Now she wants to take driving lessons and get her license to be completely independent.
WHO: GiGi’s Playhouse. GiGi’s Playhouse offers free purposeful and therapeutic services to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
