Hi everyone! I cannot believe I'll end up with three releases this month. The first Cold Blood Warm Heart is out on the 8th! Then on the 15th is Just The Right Chord, and I haven't put this up yet but the week after Christmas I'll be releasing Remember Always, which is Andy and Links wedding. If you're not familar with them, they're from Remember When, and I have had so many readers ask about them I thought why not! I'll be back on friday with a new release and lots of other news to share. Thanks everyone.

My mate. It was still hard for me to believe I’d finally found him, but somehow against all odds, we’d found each other.
“Are we really going to meet your friends?” he’d asked for the millionth time.
“Yes, I know they’re anxious to meet you too. I’m sorry we’ve waited so long. I just needed to know you were ready.” Taking a new vampire into a populated area was never a good idea. And since Lucas had himself taken a mate, I knew he understood my reluctance. His mate Brennan had not had the constant cravings for blood my mate suffered from, but he was sympathetic.
“I’ll be careful I promise,” Leon said as we drove out of the snow and ice we’d lived in the past few months.
“I know you feel in control now, but you haven’t been around a human since you’ve been changed. Not a live one anyway.” Leon had been changed when his friend was murdered, and he was left for dead by a rogue vampire who was out of control and had to be stopped.
“I’ll do my best. You can’t keep me from being around humans forever. Not if you want to continue your work for the Consortium.”
He was right, and he knew it. The council I worked for oversaw all vampire activities and disciplined and destroyed when necessary. But lately things had come to light that told of a leadership that had gone bad and was intent on destroying any vampire who would not conform to their ideals. “I won’t be working for them after we destroy the organization. They were put in place to protect vampires, but we know that’s not what they’ve been doing.” Leon nodded in agreement from the passenger seat and reached across the console for my hand.
“Would they really try to kill us?” he asked.
“They destroy anyone they deem a threat, and a newly turned vampire is unpredictable. I’m only one of the many defenders they have. We’re lucky they haven’t sent in a kill team yet.” He shivered at my words and clenched my hand tighter. “Don’t worry about that now. We’re fine as long as we don’t draw attention to us.”
“And draining someone would draw attention,” Leon said without looking at me.
“Any death of a human that looks like a vampire killing will draw attention.” We drove a few more miles in silence with only a tune on the radio playing in the background. But I didn’t mind the silence. I knew Leon had a lot on his mind, and he was still getting used to being a vampire. His brain didn’t work the way it had when he was human, and always at the forefront of all thoughts was blood. Whether he admitted it or not, given the chance, he’d rip the throat out of any warm-blooded human he came into contact with.
The drive was long to Eureka, and I tried to avoid the larger cities, but eventually we’d need to stop for gas, and hopefully that wouldn’t prove to be a mistake. We made it through Seattle and just about an hour past it was when the fuel light went on. “We need to get gas,” I said and looked around for anyplace we could stop. We were still in a suburban area where there were lots of businesses and houses. I didn’t want to stop here, but we needed to.
The sign for the next exit promised fuel and food so I took the exit and pulled into the first gas station. It was late in the afternoon on an overcast day, so being in the sun wasn’t an issue. I stopped behind another car that was filling up and turned to face Leon. “Are you okay?” I asked.
His breaths came in quick pants, and it was obvious to me he’d smelled warm blood on the human who pumped their gas without a care in the world beyond filling their car and going on their way. He gripped his jeans so tight I worried he’d shred them without conscious effort.
“I’m okay,” he gritted out as his lip curled enough to reveal his fangs.
