Black Kat News: Wishing You a Super Valentine's Day
Feb 13, 2025 2:07 pm
Dear friends and Super readers,
Hugh here, wishing you a Super Valentine's Day. Because you, dear reader, are our Valentine. And our Galentine, and Palentine (more on that below!)
Thank you so much for your love and support for this series, which is a massive undertaking, yet also so much fun. The Black Kat series contains 17 books. That's not including prequels and other goodies in the works. It's a huge worldbuild that we could spend years in. We could not do it without you.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Thank you for helping spread the word and leaving reviews. Every bit helps! We can't be Super without you.
White King Update & A Treat:
As you know, we're working hard to bring the next book to you. Target release date is March 17, but could change to April. While you're waiting, pick up a preview of the prologue and first three chapters by clicking here.
You can also pre-order the book here:
Amazon | Apple | B&N | Google Play | Kobo | More
As Kat likes to say, we're "under the gun" right now on deadlines, but keep reading for more treats below, and have a Super Valentine's with your special someone. We love you, and so does our author, who is currently buried in pile of work in her office somewhere. No one has seen her for days. We'll revive her with chocolate and wine soon!
If you'd like to help our author out, join our ARC list by clicking here.
Meet the Supers: Aislinn
This month, Aislinn is in the spotlight (much to Dale's delight.) We first met her in Playing with Fire, though she was mentioned in previous books. Aislinn is a fire shifter with unique... challenges. Find out more about her and the cycle of the Phoenix here.
Learn Ellandrian: Love & Family
They say love makes the world go round, and it certainly does on Ellandria, where we are all tied together through mating and family bonds. We have many terms of love and endearment on our home planet. Click here to check out a few of them.
Hugh's Reviews: A Court of Thorns & Roses
Summary: Beautiful people with powers and problems. What’s not to love? They're not Super, they're Fae, but we’ll forgive them (*wink) because this series is magical, literally. And who doesn't love magic?
Review: I never knew what the hype was about this book until I finally sat down and read it. And had my socks blown off. A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACOTAR, to fans) is a lush, romantic, ferocious escape into the world of the Fae, invoking elements of Beauty and the Beast and Scottish folklore.
The human heroine, Feyre (FAY-ruh), is hunting in the woods when she's attacked by a giant wolf near the border of the human and Fae lands. She kills the wolf, skins it, and sells the hide at the local market to buy food for her starving father and sisters.
End of story, right? Not quite!
It turns out she killed a shape-shifting Fae, a friend of Tamlin, the High Lord of the Spring Court, who claims her as retribution and drags her into the cursed Fae lands, where just about everything wants to kill her or eat her. With no magic to protect herself, she's dependent on her handsome, cryptic captor, who wears a mask and is under a curse..
But Feyre has a mind and a will of her own. Her story of survival, discovery, and love in this magical, dangerous world is intoxicating. The prose is beautiful and immersive. The plot packs plenty of action, adventure, suspense, and romance. It is a strong first book in a series that spans human and fae lands, powers, curses, love, adventure, humor, family dynamics, and so much more.
There are plenty of reveals and reversals that keep the story and its sequels fresh and the reader engaged. Later books turn previous ones upside down, making for exciting reading and re-reading (ask me how I know this!) I highly recommend this series to anyone looking to escape into a magical world. But be warned: once you pick it up you, you won't be able to put it down. Don't plan on sleeping much!
Note: Hulu secured the rights to produce ACOTAR into a TV series, but no release date has been confirmed. Check out the fan art and videos made about this series (but beware of spoilers!)

- Galentine’s Day: Did you know Feb 13th is Galentine's Day? I had never heard of this interesting Pre-Valentine's event, celebrating female friendships. Click here and here. (Alas, gentlemen, we don't have a day. Perhaps we need a Palentine’s Day!)
- Kat-tastic Gift: I found this adorable necklace on Amazon.
It reminds me of Kat and I.(Shhh, I might have to purchase this for her.)
- The fascinating (and tragic) history of Valentine, Arizona: Two interesting articles about this historic ghost town along Route 66, where people used to flock to get their Valentine's Day postmarks. Sadly, the post office here is no more, but the stamp lives on! Click here and here.
