It was in 2013, that I decided to quit robotics for 2 main reasons
- Cost of LEGO Robot Kits was skyrocketing (it was around Rs. 30000 (MIndstorms) per kit then, now it is around Rs. 50000 (EV3) and it was not possible for kids to buy and practice at home.
- After 6 years of representing India at the World Robot Olympiad, my eyes were set on taking Astronomy & Space Science Education to students.
Few weeks back, came across an interesting platform, made by Chinese educators that helped students to build, operate, program and compete robots in an completely online simulator for a small fraction of the amount, we will spend on buying Lego Robots.
This fascinated me and quickly brought my old World Robot Olympiad educator team and student winners (who are in college and working at ISRO & NASA) for a brain storming session to see if we can bring this game-changing program to our students.
Thus was born the Virtual Robotics Program. Just like the Virtual Planetarium Show and Super Stargazer Program, this has come out with amazing learning opportunities and have literally opened the sea of creativity for kids to explore robotics at home through self study (this is still the best form of study!).
