Hello ,

We’ve waited for this week for weeks, and now it’s here!

If you’ve read my weekly dispatches over the past three weeks, you will already know that our short film In the footsteps of Bishop Crowther [The Journey So far] will screen at Irepresent International Documentary film Festival this weekend.

Earlier today, we received the screening schedule, so we have to send out this newsletter a day early. Please, join us if you can. We can’t wait to welcome you to the screening session, and then having a conversation around it afterwards.

Help us get to Osoogun, Crowther’s Birthplace

But as excited as we are about this short film, it is only a teaser -- a tiny fraction of what still needs to be done before we call it a wrap on the project.

We still have many weeks of travel ahead of us, including to different locations in the South-South, Eastern Nigeria, the North Central, North West and Western Nigeria.

For now, though, our sights are set on Ibadan and Osoogun, Bishop Crowther’s hometown and where he was taken as a slave in 1821. While in Ibadan, we’ll attend the launch of a new book on Bishop Crowther; and from there, we’ll be off to Osoogun, where we plan to be for some days.

We understand a lot is happening in the town already, all aimed at preserving Bishop Crowther’s memory. We can’t wait to see things for ourselves.
