Our Refuge and Strength
What do we do when the world around us feels unstable? In this episode, we turn to Psalm 46:1–11, where the psalmist declares that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Even as the psalm describes the earth shaking, waters roaring, and nations raging, it reminds us that the Lord remains sovereign and present with His people.
We explore three central truths from Psalm 46: God is our refuge when everything else shakes, His presence is greater than the chaos around us, and He calls us to be still and know that He is God. We consider what it means to trust the Lord when we cannot control our circumstances, how to distinguish our responsibilities from outcomes that belong to God, and why biblical stillness does not mean refusing to act when action is needed.
Psalm 46 reminds us that our confidence does not depend on the world remaining stable. We can acknowledge uncertainty, seek wisdom, take the next faithful step, and entrust the outcome to the Lord. When your peace is disrupted this week, read Psalm 46:1–11 and ask what it reveals about God, what responsibility belongs to you, and what you need to place in His hands. Next week, we’ll study Psalm 51 in “A Broken and Contrite Heart,” exploring repentance, restoration, and God’s mercy after failure.
