Hi ,
It’s Mother’s Day! Have you greeted your mother already? Did you give her a hug or a kiss? Any simple act of love will put a smile on her face so do not let the day pass without making her feel special, okay?
The dictionary defines a mother as a woman who conceives, gives birth, or raises and nurtures a child. Well, the dictionary can only tell you as much. In reality, a mother is a friend, protector, hero, teacher, counselor, angel, and many more all rolled into a woman you will love for the rest of your life.
The mystery of the woman is revealed in motherhood. Every time a child is born into the world, the “image of God” is being reproduced. Yes, you and I are created in God’s image through our parents. "God created man in his own image; male and female he created them" (Gn 1:27).
A beautiful song associated to mothers and a song which, I believe, can easily conjure images of yourself as a baby in your mother’s arms and she singing to you a sweet lullaby is entitled “Ugoy ng Duyan (To The Cradle’s Sway)."
“Sana’y di magmaliw ang dati kong araw
(I hope my former days don’t fade away)
Nang munti pang bata sa piling ni Nanay
(When I was a young child in Mom’s arms)”
“Sa piling ni Nanay
(In Mom’s arms)
Langit ang buhay
(Life was like heaven)”
Indeed, a mother’s love is a taste of heaven. Being in the arms of a mother as a child is a very sweet memory. Whether or not we have experienced this caress on earth, we must remember that we also have a mother in heaven.
One can imagine Mama Mary holding baby Jesus and her being a witness to her own son humiliated, scourged and nailed to a cross to die. She remained in Jesus side, suffering with him. For Jesus, a glance at His mother gave Him strength, knowing that she will never abandon Him. Truly, one cannot measure the love of a mother for her child. Let us remember that Mama Mary loves us to this extent and that we can turn to her for strength and comfort.
As years go by, you will realize that the mother who taught you how to use a spoon when you were small, will become the mother who will ask for your help on how to use a smart phone. And even more years after, she will be asking your help in the simple things, like how you screamed your lungs out as a toddler when you call her after you finish your business in the toilet. Yes, that day will come when your mother will need the same love and patience that she showed you in the early years of your life in the last part of hers. Do not stop showing her love even in the small things. Love is always in the small things.
“Nais kong maulit ang awit ni Inang Mahal
(I want Beloved Mother’s song to repeat)
Awit ng pag-ibig habang ako’y nasa duyan
(Song of love while I was in the cradle)”
All the best,
Cathy P.
