{{contact.first_name}}, what's 2022 going to be like for you?

Happy New Year !

So, do you have a word for the year yet? :)

I started this word for the year thing a few years ago.

It started while I was reflecting on how my past year was, and instead of resolutions (which I felt are too many and tend to be broken), I decided I would choose one word.

One that would be the overarching theme-slash-intention of the coming year.

So the first year I did it, my word was rediscovery.

I already had three kids then and just suddenly felt this overwhelming urge to rediscover myself, rediscover what I am passionate about.

Not as a wife or as a mother ha (cause obviously I am very passionate about that), but as me, as Carla.

And that year, I discovered that I am passionate about...my faith.

This knowledge pushed me to take the necessary steps to grow more in my faith and as I did, I was led to next year’s word: gratitude.

Learning more about my faith and growing in it just filled me up with so much gratitude!

And the thing with gratitude is, once you start being thankful, you start finding more and more reasons to be thankful.

Sooo anyway, it got to the point where I felt that my cup runneth over and that I had so much gratitude and love inside that I just had to share it, which then led me to next year’s word: fiat.

When I started asking God about what I can do for Him, opportunities suddenly started coming my way.

The Beyond Kilig advocacy happened.

Was it something I expected? No.

Honestly, I was expecting something more along the lines of baby steps and being part of the Beyond Kilig Team was - and continues to be! Haha-  a huge leap into the unknown. 😬

Is it easy? No.

Is it scary? Yes.

Did these keep me from saying yes to Beyond Kilig? No.

Because by then I had already figured out that God knows me more than I know myself and whatever He throws my way is just His way of letting me get to know myself more and discovering just exactly what it is that I am capable of.

So, as my ‘fiat’ year comes to an end, and before I start living out my new ‘word for the year’, I am leaving you with some well-wishes and a prayer.

I hope you realize that you are loved.

I hope that you realize that you were made for greatness.

May you read those lines, let them sink in, and then start living them out.

May you realize that oftentimes our fears and how we view ourselves are what keep us from achieving greatness.

I heard this from a short meditation I was listening to the other day, and I think it’s so apt. It’s from St. Gregory:

“You are a poor thing in your own eyes.

But I would teach you that in reality you are a great thing.

Realize what you are.  Consider your royal dignity.

The heavens have not been made in God’s image as you have.

Not the moon, not the sun, not anything that can be seen in creation.  Behold; of all that exists, there is nothing that can contain your greatness.”

May this be the year that you leave all that is weighing you down and then start striving for greatness.

Leaving you with this prayer from St. Francis Drake, who prayed for the courage to go #beyondhimself and to #lovebeyondkilig
