Why Narnia isn't enough (for your kids or mine)

Hi ,

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been diving into the "Deep Magic" of Narnia together. It has been incredible to see how C.S. Lewis can open a child’s heart to the Gospel in a way a standard textbook never could.

But I’ve been thinking lately about a hard truth.

A captivated heart is only half the battle.

If we give our children the imagination to love the Kingdom of God, but we don’t give them the logic to understand the world they actually live in, we are sending them out with a shield but no sword.

As parents in 2026, we are up against a culture that wants to claim both the hearts and the minds of our kids.

To raise a truly "Faithful Family," I’ve realized we need two things working in tandem:

  1. The Imagination (The Wardrobe): Stories that make them fall in love with Truth, Beauty, and the Lion of Judah.
  2. The Intellect (The Public Square): The ability to think clearly, understand the foundations of our freedom, and articulate why they believe what they believe.

In the coming weeks, I’m going to be sharing more about how we bridge these two worlds—connecting the "Deep Magic" of Narnia with the "Self-Evident Truths" that our country was built upon.

We’re going to look at how a fantasy story about a magical world can actually prepare a teenager to understand the wisdom of the Federalist Papers.

It sounds like a big leap, doesn't it? But for a family rooted in faith, it’s all the same journey.

Quick question for you: Between "growing their faith" and "helping them think critically about the world," which one feels like the bigger challenge for your family right now?

Hit Reply and let me know. I read every single response.

Blessings,

Craig
