This week, choose a place to explore or a story to begin.
Look at a map differently
The Library of Congress's Maps in Our Lives online exhibition explores how maps are made and used. Choose one item and ask: what did its maker want the reader to notice? Then sketch a map of a familiar room with only the details that matter to you. Check individual rights information before reusing images.
Start a fictional character
Start writing fiction is a free OpenLearn course. Begin with the character section, then invent a person who wants something small but cannot quite get it. The full introductory course is listed at 12 hours; you can start its content without an account. Progress tracking and access to all activities require signup.
Explore a spacecraft's journey
NASA's Eyes offers browser-based 3D visualizations of space and missions. Choose a mission or planet and explore its place in the larger solar system. This is a visualization using NASA data, not a live camera feed. Performance may depend on your device and connection.
The map and character exercises above are our own suggestions. You do not need to finish every resource. One interesting question is a worthwhile result.
What should I look for next: something practical to learn, something to read, or an activity to share?
