There used to be a time when being a graduate was enough in Nigeria.

Students didn't need to possess any skill outside their course of study. They didn't need to have a side hustle.

They didn't need to be conscripted into entrepreneurship against their wills.

Your certificate was enough to earn you a decent living.

Never knew times like this existed until today when I was reading through the pages of "There was a country" authored by Chinua Achebe.

I bet you didn't knew times like this once existed too. Nigeria used to be a great country.

Chinua Achebe mentioned that he was once offered a job & his employees suggested that he was interviewed at his preferred location.

"After graduation I did not have to worry about where I would go next. The system was so well organized that as we left university most of us were instantly absorbed into civil service, academia, business or industry"

This was a sentence lifted from his book.

Now I understand why our parents wanted us to succeed at school. Certificate was once the ticket out of poverty.

But not anymore.

Today, graduates can't even get jobs. Not to talk of a high paying jobs.

Graduates nowadays have to be more than just graduates.

It's quite sad. And unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about the situation.

That's why despite pursuing academics excellence. I don't joke with my online business.
