How To Avoid Paying Taxes (legally)
Jan 14, 2026 10:48 am
Over time in this space, we’ve talked a lot about lead generation, sales, ads, and growth.
But to what end?
To make more money.
To live comfortably.
To take care of our loved ones.
To enjoy the fruits of our labour.
That’s the whole point of this entrepreneurship journey.
Unfortunately, that goal is now being threatened by people who are supposed to support small businesses.
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard about the new tax laws in Nigeria.
Honestly, even a newborn baby in Nigeria has heard about it.
Whether we like it or not, you and I are going to pay tax.
Let me be clear though — I’m not here to scare you.
I’m not here to spread misinformation.
I’m here to show you how to avoid paying more tax than you should — legally.
Because the real problem is not paying tax.
The real problem is overpaying.
And this is where things get tricky for people like you and me — the self-employed.
If you’re in the corporate world, your taxes are deducted automatically.
Your employer handles most of the structure.
But for business owners like us, it’s a completely different ball game.
If your business has no structure, trust me — you will pay more tax than necessary.
For example, if you’re still receiving business income into your personal bank account, how do you explain to the tax man that the ₦100k Selar paid you is not your salary, but business revenue?
As we say on the streets: “You go explain tire.”
Again, I’m not trying to scare you.
I’m simply telling you the truth.
If you want to protect your money, you must put proper structures in place.
Even if it feels painful now.
Even if it means sacrificing a bit today.
Because that pain is better than dashing your hard-earned money to Tinubu.
So what should you do?
Step 1: Talk to someone who actually understands Nigerian tax laws
Step 2: Put proper structures in place and keep records
Step 3: Register your business with CAC
Step 4: Retrieve your TIN
Step 5: Open a business bank account and use it strictly for business
Step 6: Start issuing invoices and receipts (there are mobile apps for this)
There’s more to it than this, but this email is already longer than I planned.
Everything I’ve mentioned here is exactly what I’ve done in my own business.
That’s why I want to connect you with someone who understands this space and is personally guiding me through it.
He can:
- Help you register your business with CAC in one week or less
- Review your business to recommend the right registration type
- Guide you on tax compliance without stress or confusion
